VATT Training

Sue with “Richard Cranium” the man with a removable brain. The brain comes out and pulls apart in about 6 different sections.

Wednesday May 31st – More ABI stuff today. GDV employs 2 OT (Occupational Therapists). One is the manager of the ABI department and works occasionally with ABI clients, and the other works with all the departments. Today we got an overview the work that OTs do with visually impaired clients both in the rehabilitation centers and their role at GDV. We had another session on anatomy, focusing on the blood supply to the brain and areas of damage when blood supply is interrupted.

Our client training part of the day had us practicing how to use the VATT for training scanning techniques. We role played instructor and client to practice.
In the afternoon the consulting physiotherapist Geoff Bell came and gave a talk about motor function and brain injuries. He is the same physiotherapist that spoke to us earlier in the course and he is really good. The material was very interesting, he is very knowledgeable, and he showed interesting videos of clients with motor function issues resulting from brain injuries.
